It’s not uncommon to see people wire radios to the fuse box by inserting the power wire directly into a fuse slot and then inserting a fuse on top of it. Although this may work, it is also dangerous and could damage your new radio or create a potential fire hazard. You should also avoid using a fuse with a higher amperage rating than that specified for your new radio or stereo. While the radio will still work, you defeat the purpose of the fuse by using one with a higher amp rating. A fuse amp rating indicates how much current, in amperes, the circuit can withstand before the fuse blows. If you use a fuse with too high a rating, it may not blow or fail in time to prevent damage to your radio. For instance, using a fuse rated at 25 amps with a 15-amp car radio may allow too much current to pass through the circuit and cause irreparable damage to the stereo.

If the original stereo was bolted into the dash, you might need to remove the mounting brackets from the sides of it and attach them to the sides of your new stereo. More likely, you will need a mounting kit to install the stereo.

Many vehicles will go through their entire service life without any issues related to the wiring harness or its connections. But it is not unusual when diagnosing a problem with a vehicle system to eventually locate the root cause at a damaged wire, terminal, or connector.

Like everything else in this world, there are varying degrees of wire quality. For years the standby wire insulation was Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC. Relatively tough, flexible, and inexpensive, it gets the job done, however, PVC is a thermoplastic. And like other thermoplastics like lacquers and synthetic enamels, it tends to oxidize and brittle with age.

Intake valves bring a mixture of air and fuel into the combustion chamber to create the combustion to power the engine. Outtake valves let the exhaust that’s created after the combustion out of the combustion chamber.

Like most seemingly complicated things, automotive electrical systems are collections of very simple assemblies. And lucky for us, there’s no secret as to how these things work. It boils down to basic technique. Do a few things right and you’re assured many trouble-free years of service.
