Inside the grooves piston rings are put in. The piston rings are the part that actually touch the walls of the cylinder. They are made from iron and come in two varieties: compression rings and oil rings. The compression rings are the top rings and they press outward on the walls of the cylinder to provide a strong seal for the combustion chamber. The oil ring is the bottom ring on a piston and it prevents oil from the crankcase from seeping into the combustion chamber. It also wipes excess oil down the cylinder walls and back into the crankcase.

Like most seemingly complicated things, automotive electrical systems are collections of very simple assemblies. And lucky for us, there’s no secret as to how these things work. It boils down to basic technique. Do a few things right and you’re assured many trouble-free years of service.

As wires carry electricity they get hot, so it is possible after a lot of use for a connection to melt and no longer make contact. If the connect is outside of the cabin of the car it could get rusty or dirty to the point where electricity will no longer flow. It is also possible that from use and vibrations the wires simply disconnect. In this case you need a wiring diagram for your vehicle, a circuit tester and a lot of patience.
By Lazare Anthelme. Car Electrical Wiring. Published at Sunday, November 12th 2017, 05:27:40 AM. There are two types of electricity, alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). When batteries discharge they emit a constant DC power in one direction, supplying electricity through the positive terminal to the negative. Most automotive components require this DC charge to work properly, but it is limited because batteries will eventually discharge completely, with no remaining power to give.

Like everything else in this world, there are varying degrees of wire quality. For years the standby wire insulation was Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC. Relatively tough, flexible, and inexpensive, it gets the job done, however, PVC is a thermoplastic. And like other thermoplastics like lacquers and synthetic enamels, it tends to oxidize and brittle with age.
