Because of the construction of wiring connectors they can sometimes create high resistance which causes heat making the connector have an open circuit. When performing wiring repairs a wiring schematic is sometimes necessary to trace wires or locate a component.

The crankcase is located beneath the cylinder block. The crankcase protects the crankshaft and connecting rods from outside objects. The area at the bottom of a crankcase is called the oil pan and that’s where your engine’s oil is stored. Inside the oil pan, you’ll find an oil pump that pumps oil through a filter, and then that oil is squirted on to the crankshaft, connecting rod bearings, and cylinder walls to provide lubrication to the movement of the piston stroke. Alternators are actually small generators capable of turning mechanical into electrical energy. Driven by the engine belt, alternators use a small signal from the battery to energize a field current that turns a rotor inside a set of stators. Since this energy is driven by the polarity of magnetic fields, the current produced as a result changes direction as the rotor turns, producing current in opposite or alternating directions (hence AC). Alternators produce significantly higher currents than initially supplied by the battery, so they are used to recharge the battery itself and power other electrical components.

Once you have your fuse tap, the only tools you really need to connect the car radio to the fuse box are a wire crimper tool and a utility knife. If you are installing the radio in a classic vehicle, you'll need a Phillips screwdriver to connect the wire from the radio to the fuse box. Of course, you will also need a fuse rated with an amperage value rated for your car radio. You should be able to find the recommended amperage rating for the fuse in the radio installation guide. Most low-powered radios can use a 20-amp fuse without any issues. However, for high-powered stereos, those that produce 100 watts of power or more. You may have to use a 25- or 30-amp fuse. You may be able to use a wire clasp or harness already under the dash to secure the wiring from the radio to the fuse box. If there is no available clasp or harness, though, you can use some ordinary electrical tape to secure the new power wire for the radio to an existing wire bundles beneath the dashboard. The only other items you might need are a piece of 12-gauge electrical wire and a butt connector if the power wire from the radio is too short to reach the fuse box.

Now you have isolated the problem to the relay and only two things can be wrong: either the relay's coil isn't energizing (due to an internal broken wire) or the high-current contacts are being drawn together but no current is passing through (remember high-resistance connections?). If the coil is bad the relay must be replaced. If the contacts are charred, file them smooth.
