If you are not using a custom wiring harness, look for a bare, unpainted bolt or screw that contacts the bare metal of your vehicle's chassis. Loosen the bolt, slip the ground wire underneath (this is almost always a black wire), then tighten the bolt. If your ground wire doesn't contact bare metal, your stereo won't operate. A loose or weak ground connection can result in signal noise interfering with your music.

If the wiring isn’t labeled already, label each wire or harness with the name of the components they route to. If the wiring or harness will be going through the firewall, use a grommet in the hole so the sheetmetal won’t cut through the wires. Don’t secure the connectors until the wiring is through the firewall.

A power distribution center is used to route positive battery power throughout the vehicle using relays and fuses. This center is powered directly off of the positive post of the battery using a positive battery cable.

You may have to (carefully) pry the plastic trim away from the dash (which is often secured by hidden pressure clips), or locate and remove bolts to disassemble other pieces of panel. Once you have gained access to the factory stereo, you should be able to see screws that secure the radio to the dash. Remove the screws and pull the stereo from the dash.

Choose a spot on or near the firewall for the common ground point for the harness, and one point for a chassis ground on the negative side of the vehicle. This method gives you a single path to the negative side of the vehicle and provides a more effective ground. Use 10 gauge or bigger wire to connect the common ground to your chassis ground.

With the little map in the cover and the diagram of the owner's manual, you will have a clear guide on where to plug the wires. To help you out, most wires are color coded, thus giving you more information in how to locate each wire and follow the lead. If the wires are not colored, you must do it the old fashion way. Here is where the tester comes in handy. You will have to test every fuse and wire to make sure of the right numbers, thus giving you the correct lead.

Published at Monday, February 19th 2018, 22:22:47 PM. “Electricity” refers to electron flow through a circuit where one end is positive and the other negative. Actually, every object has an electrical charge, but most are so small they are impossible to detect. To power something like a motor, we have developed man made chemical cells with high electric potential: batteries. Batteries in turn lend power to starting, charging and security systems, lights, ABS, computers, sensors, climate control and onboard accessories. They are probably the first thing you think of when you hear about electricity in automotive applications, but batteries are far from alone in running the system.
