If you are having a problem with an electrical component in your vehicle the first place to start is in the fuse box. Most cars have a few different fuse boxes. Most of the time, one is in the engine bay and a second is in the vehicle somewhere under the dash or on a kick panel. The engine bay fuse box usually holds the larger fuses for things like the alternator, electric fans or starter. The fuse panel inside usually houses the smaller fuses for things like the brake lights, clock and radio. There will be a diagram of which fuse goes to what on the underside of the cover or in your owner’s manual. Find the fuse for the component you are having problems with and pull it out. If the glass or plastic appears dark or burnt the fuses is probably blow and should be replaced.

Fusible Links, another kind of fuse, are used in many cars and are almost always found in the wiring harness in the engine compartment. These are molded, single-purpose links in the wire which are designed to melt under extreme conditions (usually a crash which might crush wires together, causing a huge short circuit). Your car's schematic will show their use and location.

The high-current wire from the battery might go through an appropriate fuse on the fuse panel or there might be an in-line fuse near the horns (it depends upon the production engineering decisions as to the most economical placement, but your schematic drawing will show its location).

The size of the conductor is calibrated very carefully so that when the rated current is reached, enough heat is generated to melt the conductor and so break the circuit.

These metal parts acts as a conductive connector for positive battery power completing the electrical circuit.

A few minutes of precaution here can prevent untold hours spent repairing a damaged system later on.
