Check the fuses. 2. Check for voltage to the horns at the horn connector. Push the horn button or jump the wire to ground to actuate the relay. If you have voltage the horns should be operable, so search elsewhere for the problem. 3. Check for voltage at the horn button. While there, check to be sure the button's contacts touch each other when pushed. If everything's ok, go to the relay. 4. With someone pushing the horn button, check for voltage (on the low-current wire coming from the dash) on the relay. If there is voltage, the relay isn't working, right?

Relays are used in high power devices and are essentially electrically activated switches. When you turn your car on, multiple components turn on like the fuel pump, computer and electric fans. A small amount of power is run through the switch in your ignition which can then activate multiple relays turning all the peripheral equipment without running full power for all of them through the ignition switch. Relays also can go bad over time and cause electrical problems. The best way to test a relay is to have a helper touch or listen to the relay while you turn the device on. You should feel a slight tap and hear a quiet click as the relay engages.

When you replace that radio, these warning sounds are lost, and that's dangerous. Thus, these vehicles require a special harness to keep these audible tones working when you install a new stereo. Fortunately, these harnesses also take care of all of the basic stereo connections.

When batteries discharge they emit a constant DC power in one direction, supplying electricity through the positive terminal to the negative. Most automotive components require this DC charge to work properly, but it is limited because batteries will eventually discharge completely, with no remaining power to give.

In many cases, it's useful for you to know how to wire a car fuse box, especially when adding new electrical components to your vehicle. There are 2 main fuse box locations in a car, 1 is plate near the steering wheel; the other is placed under the hood. This is where we’re going to work. The types of wiring in general, are endless because of the different makes of cars having unique wiring systems. This article will only cover what should be the basics for every type of fuse box.
