Every car's electrical system is composed of a wiring harness that connects various computer, controllers, lights, actuators, motors and switches. This electrical system is intergraded throughout the car to communicate with each part using a central computer which runs the engine or main electric motor. The battery is responsible for supplying power to the car while the engine is not running but in electric cars the battery does all of the work while powering the motor. High amperage circuits are designed with larger components to handle the load without failing. Common maintenance includes inspecting electrical connectors that are visible including the battery cables.

If you are having a problem with an electrical component in your vehicle the first place to start is in the fuse box. Most cars have a few different fuse boxes. Most of the time, one is in the engine bay and a second is in the vehicle somewhere under the dash or on a kick panel. The engine bay fuse box usually holds the larger fuses for things like the alternator, electric fans or starter. The fuse panel inside usually houses the smaller fuses for things like the brake lights, clock and radio. There will be a diagram of which fuse goes to what on the underside of the cover or in your owner’s manual. Find the fuse for the component you are having problems with and pull it out. If the glass or plastic appears dark or burnt the fuses is probably blow and should be replaced.

Your new stereo will also include a radio wiring diagram in the owner's manual. Refer to the two diagrams to confirm the car stereo wire colors that need to be connected to the adapter harness. The nice thing is that you can make these connections on a workbench, desk, or kitchen table without having to be inside the vehicle.

The crankcase is located beneath the cylinder block. The crankcase protects the crankshaft and connecting rods from outside objects. The area at the bottom of a crankcase is called the oil pan and that’s where your engine’s oil is stored. Inside the oil pan, you’ll find an oil pump that pumps oil through a filter, and then that oil is squirted on to the crankshaft, connecting rod bearings, and cylinder walls to provide lubrication to the movement of the piston stroke. The oil eventually drips back down into the oil pan, only to begin the process again

It’s a thermo-setting plastic, which means it has a molecular structure that cross-links into very durable chains. And like other thermo-setting plastics, like polyurethanes, it remains pliable and resists oxidation and abrasion to a far greater degree.

Take your drawings to a copier that enlarges and blow them up to easily-readable size. Tape all the sheets together into one big drawing an you will find that tracing electrical paths becomes very straightforward.

Every car audio installer, indeed, every automotive professional, will always recommend this first step: disconnect the battery by removing the negative battery cable. You want to do this in order to avoid any possibility of a short circuit. Remember that on many late-model vehicles, you will need a "radio code" in order to reactivate the radio.
